Desert Rock was awarded two Michelin Keys within its first year of operation, recognizing culinary excellence and the quality of the guest experience. The resort is also one of the first in the world to achieve DarkSky Approved Lodging & Resort certification, awarded by DarkSky International in collaboration with Red Sea Global, recognizing the quality of the night sky, responsible outdoor lighting, and protection of the natural nighttime environment.

Desert Rock is one of the first resorts in the world to achieve this distinction, supporting both astronomical observation and the natural light-dark cycles vital to nocturnal wildlife.

The resort features six villa and suite categories: Wadi Villas, Cliff Hanging Villas, Mountain Cave Suites, Mountain Crevice Villas, and the Three-Bedroom Royal Villa, each carved into or built onto the Hejaz rock formations.

The One-Bedroom Wadi Villa accommodates up to 2 adults and 2 children. The Two-Bedroom Wadi Villa accommodates up to 4 adults, 2 children and 1 infant. The One-Bedroom Cliff Hanging Villa accommodates up to 2 adults and 2 children. The Two-Bedroom Cliff Hanging Villa accommodates up to 4 adults, 2 children and 1 infant. The Mountain Cave Suite is an adults-only category that accommodates up to 2 adults. The One-Bedroom Mountain Crevice Villa is an adults-only category that accommodates up to 2 adults. Every villa and suite category at Desert Rock includes a private pool, described variously as an infinity pool, plunge pool or pool that appears to hang in midair.

The Mountain Cave Suites offer complete privacy and cliffside plunge pools, making them ideal for couples seeking romance. The Mountain Crevice Villas' pools that appear to hang above the desertscape provide equally dramatic scenery for a romantic retreat.

The Three-Bedroom Royal Villa (1,107 sqm, accommodating up to 6 adults and 2 children) is Desert Rock's largest and most secluded accommodation, ideal for families and larger groups. Two-Bedroom Wadi or Cliff Hanging Villas offer family-friendly alternatives with more intimate settings.

Wadi Villas sit along the valley floor offering a relaxed setting with generous indoor and outdoor living space and views across the valley. Mountain properties—including Cliff Hanging Villas, Mountain Cave Suites, and Mountain Crevice Villas—occupy elevated positions perched on the massif, offering dramatic, far-reaching views and a more private, secluded experience.

Mountain View, Cliff Hanging, and Mountain Crevice Villas, positioned at elevated points on the massif, offer the most expansive sunrise and sunset views across the surrounding landscape and desert.

Desert Rock was designed by award-winning architecture practice Oppenheim Architecture, guided by their philosophy of "building with the land rather than on it." The resort is carved into, suspended from, and shaped around the ancient granite formations of the Hijaz Mountains. Drawing inspiration from the Nabataean civilisation, which carved monumental structures directly into rock, Desert Rock embeds villas, suites and shared spaces within the mountains and valley, allowing the landscape to remain the defining element of the design.

Interiors were designed by Studio Paolo Ferrari, a Toronto- and Milan-based design practice. The studio's approach complements rather than competes with the natural setting, balancing respect for the ancient landscape with a contemporary outlook. Materials such as stone and sand are softened by custom-made furniture and lighting reminiscent of torchlight, while openings frame views of the mountains and valley, maintaining connection between interiors and the surrounding landscape.

Desert Rock features six restaurants and bars: Nyra (signature wood-fired restaurant), Mica (fermentation and non-alcoholic mixology bar), Basalt (Saudi breakfast and South American dining), Wadi (poolside Levantine cuisine), The Library (coffee, tea, light dishes and gelato), and The Observatory (post-dinner lounge with imaginative drinks and stargazing).

Guests can enjoy private dining experiences including desert picnics, poolside lunches, and villa-arranged dining curated by their Villa Host. The Observatory also offers secluded post-dinner experiences on top of the massif.

The Observatory features imaginative non-alcoholic drinks, with signature creations including the Planet Ispahan, an evolving drink built around a rose ice sphere that changes flavour as it melts.

Perched at the highest point of the massif and reached via a 120-metre suspension bridge, The Observatory is a secluded post-dinner lounge overlooking the night sky. Guests can settle in for imaginative non-alcoholic drinks and gourmet pastries while stargazing above the resort, with the suspension bridge offering dramatic views of the surrounding landscape.

The Listening Room is a rare auditory experience combining high-fidelity sound, curated vinyl, and the desert's serenity. The space is home to the resort's Spa by Music concept, pairing curated soundscapes and vinyl listening with focused wellness treatments.

Kids' Club currently operates 10:00 AM-7:00 PM; confirm whether in-villa childcare is available outside these hours with the Experiences team.

The Kids & Teens Club welcomes children aged 2 and above. Children aged 2-5 enjoy creative play including arts and crafts, story time, indoor treasure hunts, puppet shows and playtime. Children aged 6-9 participate in rock painting, bracelet making, cooking classes, treasure hunts, relay races and falcon kite activities. Teens aged 10+ enjoy Desert Tennis, e-bike experiences, ping pong, foosball, bucket golf, karaoke, cooking and mixology classes, yoga, movies and stargazing with a Vespera telescope. The Kids' Club is open 10:00 AM-7:00 PM.

Akun's purpose-built Adventure Hub at Al Sulaie Wadi, located minutes from the resort, is the starting point for land-based experiences. These include guided and self-guided hiking trails of varying difficulty, rock climbing and abseiling, via ferrata routes, ziplining, archery, electric quad-bike journeys and electric bike/scooter experiences. All motorised experiences use electric-powered vehicles for minimal environmental impact.

Cultural Adventure experiences include Areesh building, Palm Weaving workshops, a falcon show, camel riding, traditional Saudi coffee and storytelling, and archery sessions from beginner to competitive level.

Akun leads Desert Rock's astronomy and noctourism programme, including Arabian Astronomy guided observation beneath the desert sky, and the Al'Ayali Albeidh Lunar Nights experience exploring the moon, stars, and their cultural significance. Guests can also experience guided walks through the mountain landscape as daylight fades and observe planets and constellations from designated viewing areas. Shura Links is a championship par-72 golf course on Shura Island near the Desert Rock and wider Red Sea destination, designed by Brian Curley across 18 holes shaped by dunes, mangroves and sea views, with a beachfront clubhouse.

The Spa at Desert Rock features seven treatment rooms, including a private hammam, a water-therapy room with a rhassoul chamber and an outdoor treatment room, alongside the Spa Lagoon and an outdoor vitality pool.

Signature treatments include the Desert Rock Signature Ritual (a 180-minute journey combining a one-on-one yoga session, cellular gold exfoliation, rhassoul body mask, massage with 24-karat gold-plated stones, and cellular gold facial), the Cellular Gold Rejuvenation Hammam (cleansing and exfoliating with cellular gold and vitamin C), and the Moonlight Meteorite Massage (using mineral-rich meteorite extracts to support circulation and deep relaxation).

Spa operating hours are listed as 10:00 AM-9:00 PM.

The Pavilion hosts a weekly programme of guided movement practices including Hatha and Vinyasa yoga, Mat Pilates, restorative yoga, breathwork and sound baths. Aerial Yoga is available as a private session, and Wellness by Music at The Pavilion combines mindful movement, yoga, curated soundscapes and sound meditation.

The gym is open 24 hours a day with Technogym equipment, a fitness lap pool, and personal trainers available 7:00 AM-7:00 PM; in-villa gym equipment is also available on request.

Desert Rock is 20 minutes by car from Red Sea International Airport (RSI).

Desert Rock is approximately 30 minutes drive from the Red Sea coast, allowing guests to combine mountain adventures with marine experiences.

Saudia flies to RSI six times weekly from Riyadh and three times weekly from Jeddah; flydubai operates twice weekly from Dubai; Qatar Airways operates three weekly direct flights from Doha (roughly 2h30m).

The Red Sea destination is 500 km north of Jeddah and 375 km northwest of Madinah. On arrival, guests are met by their Villa Host and accompanied to the guest arrival hub. Guest parking is available at the resort.

Desert Rock has achieved LEED Platinum certification under LEED v4 BD+C, with 85 points reflecting performance across energy, water, materials, site management and environmental quality. The resort preserves 97% of the natural landscape to minimize site disturbance. It operates fully off-grid using on-site renewable energy, with a 58% reduction in outdoor water use and 36% reduction in indoor water use. Rock and stone excavated during construction were repurposed in the resort's infrastructure, and a fully electric mobility strategy supports sustainability.

The Red Sea is a year-round destination. From mid-November to March, daytime temperatures generally range from 25°C to 28°C, falling to around 15°C to 18°C at night. Summer temperatures are warmer; confirm seasonal details for summer travel planning.

The Red Sea is a private sun, sea and sand destination where guests should dress how they feel comfortable. When visiting local villages or religious sites, modest dress covering arms and knees is advised for both men and women (hair covering is not required for women).
